delusions that Americans have when traveling abroad in respect to

Sheet on MEXICO dated February 3, 2004. This was taken from the
Medical Insurance heading of the Info Sheet.
When making a decision regarding health insurance,
Americans should consider that many foreign doctors and hospitals
require payment in cash prior to providing service and that medical
air evacuation to the U.S. may cost well in excess of $50,000.
The Dept of State strongly urges Americans to consult with their
medical insurance company prior to traveling abroad to confirm whether
their policies applies over seas and if it will cover emergency
expenses such as medical evacuation. U.S. medical insurance plans
seldom cover health care costs outside of the U.S. unless supplemental
coverage is purchased. Further, U.S. Medicare and Medicaid programs
do not provide payment for Medical services outside the U.S.
